Yoga Nidra | Melbourne
Deep rest for Mind,
Body, and Spirit
Discover the profound benefits of Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation practice that promotes deep relaxation and inner healing. Our sessions are designed to help you unwind, release tension, and restore balance in your life.
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra, often called "yogic sleep," is a powerful meditative practice that guides you into a state of conscious relaxation. Unlike traditional meditation, where effort is required to focus, Yoga Nidra invites you to simply lie down, listen, and let go..
Why Yoga Nidra?
At its core, Yoga Nidra is a journey inward. In the hypnagogic state, where Yoga Nidra takes you, the brain becomes incredibly receptive to positive intention and self-exploration. This state bridges the conscious and subconscious mind, making it a fertile ground for:
A release from deeply held stress and tension
Access to the subconscious mind for insight and healing
A rebalancing of the nervous system, shifting you from "fight or flight" to "rest and digest"
Rewriting limiting beliefs
Enhancing creativity and intuition
Cultivating emotional resilience
Enable emotional processing and releasing of stored emotions, which helps you move forward with lightness and clarity
Unlocking a profound sense of clarity and purpose
Improved sleep quality
A renewed sense of energy and well-being
One of the most beautiful aspects of Yoga Nidra is its inclusivity. As there are no physical demands during the practice, it is practiced laying on your back. It is suitable for people of all physical abilities, ages, and experience levels.

Frequently asked questions
-
The hypnagogic state, that dreamy place between wakefulness and sleep, is a neurological sweet spot. In this state, your brain waves slow down to alpha and theta frequencies, associated with creativity, deep learning, and healing.
During Yoga Nidra, you are gently guided into this state, where your mind is quiet, yet awake, and your body is profoundly relaxed. Here’s why it’s so transformative:
Access to the Subconscious Mind: Break free from habitual thought patterns and create space for new perspectives.
Deep Relaxation: The body’s natural repair mechanisms are activated, reducing stress and enhancing vitality.
Emotional Processing: Release stored emotions, helping you move forward with lightness and clarity.
-
Yoga Nidra is essentially a meditation technique rather than a relaxation practice. Relaxation is a by-product of the practice.
-
No experience is needed! Our classes are beginner-friendly and adaptable to all levels, whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your practice.
-
Yoga Nidra is practiced lying on your back in Savasana pose—a resting position that allows for deep relaxation and stillness. We have yoga mats for you to lay on your back.
To ensure your comfort and create a cozy environment for your practice, here’s what you can bring (optional):
Yoga Mat: While we provide mats at State of Harmony, you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Bolster or Cushion: For additional support under your knees or head to make your Savasana pose as comfortable as possible.
Blanket or Shawl: To keep warm as your body temperature may drop during deep relaxation.
Eye Mask or Cover (Optional): To block out light and enhance your inward focus.
We aim to make your session as relaxing and restorative as possible, so feel free to bring anything else that helps you feel supported and at ease.
